This Dog has been adopted.

This is Theodora (DOB 2013). She has been through a lot! In January 2019, she was brought into a vet office by her owners and diagnosed with severe narcotic mastitis. Her condition was life threatening. She had just had a litter of six 2 1/2 week old mixed breed puppies. The owners did not have the money for her care so planned to do nothing. Thanks to Dr. Anna, Theodora was given a chance to live. The owners signed her and pups over to Dr. Anna. She called FCSR to come pick up the puppies immediately (remember the black chi-spaniel pups?) and then arranged for Theodora to have surgery immediately that Sunday evening at her clinic. Theodora was hospitalized for a week post operatively. Dr. Anna very generously covered all the expenses. Once Theodora was stable, we picked her up. About a month after the surgery, Theodora was well enough to be spayed. After she recovered from that, she was started on a long treatment for heartworm. Finally, we thought she ready to put up for adoption… but we noticed her bumping into couple things. Dr. Dan Wolf, an eye specialist, said she has bilateral cataracts forming. He also said that she sadly has primary glaucoma, so surgery is not an option.

Since recovering from her first surgery, Theodora has been nothing but sweet. She greets all she meets, people and animals alike, with a gentle swish of her beautiful full tail. She will need a home with someone that is comfortable with a blind dog and the means to provide the eye care that is in her future. We are looking for a home with another dog to be her friend and owner with a previous vet history we can confirm. If you think you are the person for this sweet girl please fill out the application at floridacocker.org.
